Research Community
Our research students enjoy a busy, performance environment and a supportive team of research staff both within the Conservatoire and in the wider University.
Research work is fully supervised and students benefit from a dedicated Research Room with computers and access to acoustic analysis software, including Matlab-based software dedicated to the analysis of recordings and packages including Sforzando, Wave and Sibelius.
Research students are welcome to make full use of the Conservatoire’s extensive resources, which include state-of-the-art concert and recital halls, facilities for composition, music technology, practice-orientated research and certain areas of historical musicology and analysis.
Our busy performance environment includes two full symphony orchestras, baroque, contemporary and jazz ensembles and a number of world music ensembles including Gamelan.
We hold regular student workshops with the internationally acclaimed Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
