Mark Eden
Mark Eden studied at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with DipRAM, and the Julian Bream Prize. While at the RAM he formed the Eden Stell Guitar Duo with Chris Stell and together they were awarded the Principal's Prize for Achievement and the Allcard Grant from the Worshipful Company of Musicians for further study with Sergio Assad in Brussels. The Duo went on to debut at the Wigmore Hall and Southbank Centre in 1994, and forming a close association with composer Stephen Dodgson, culminating in a performances and recording of his Concertino for two guitars and strings and his complete duo works which was Editor’s Choice in Gramophone.
Mark is also a founder member of the Vida Guitar Quartet who have had international success and acclaim, touring regularly in the USA, Europe and China. The Quartet’s enthusiasm for performing eclectic and diverse repertoire have inspired Mark to create many arrangements of works for the ensemble including Adam Gorb’s Yiddish Dances, Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos and other work.
In recent years Mark has accompanied tenor James Gilchrist, recording as part of the complete collect of Stephen Dodgson’s songs on the Somm label in 2020. Mark features on recordings with the BGS, Naxos, and Deux-Elles labels with the Eden Stell Guitar Duo and VIDA Guitar Quartet.
Mark is artistic director of the Winchester Guitar Festival, Dillington Festival and Ammerdown Guitar Summer School. Last year Chris and Mark were artistic directors of the "Play2 Youth Guitar Festival" in Armenia which saw 70 young guitarist take part in ensembles, concerts and classes in Yerevan. Mark is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of his performing achievements, a D’Addario artist, and has taught at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire since 2004.
