Chris Orton

Chris Orton is active as a recorder player, teacher and conductor throughout Europe. He teaches recorder at the Royal Northern College of Music senior and junior departments, Chetham’s School of Music and at the Birmingham Conservatoire. As as conductor, he works with the Stockport Youth Orchestra, the National Youth Recorder Orchestra and Junior RNCM Wind Ensemble. He also teaches Dalcroze Eurhythmics at the Escola ‘Joan Llongueres’ in Barcelona.

Chris performs the whole range of music for recorder, and in particular works with new music and commissions from composers of today. Composers such as Thomas Simaku, Edward Gregson and Michal Pawelek have all composed solo pieces for Chris.

Early in his career, Chris won 1st prize in the 2007 Moeck SRP International Solo Recorder Competition, 2nd prize in the Krzysztof Penderecki Competition of Contemporary Music in 2006, a BBC Performing Arts Fund bursary for £20,000 and was awarded the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
