English Language Requirements
All teaching at the Conservatoire is in English, so you must be able to demonstrate a strong command of the English language. If your first language is not English, you must have gained one of the UK Border Agency's approved secure English Language test (SELT) qualifications at the designated level for the course. Further information is available on the UK Border Agency (UKBA) website.
Please note that a minimum of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent is required in all four skills areas to secure a student visa. Part-time study is not available to students from outside the EU.

Even though you may have met the stated requirements, if your first language is not English, we may ask you to take an additional English Language Test when you arrive. Based on the results of the test, you may be required to attend regular English classes to improve your level of competence. English classes are provided free of charge and are available to all non-UK students who wish to attain greater fluency in English. Tuition is offered in grammar, conversation and comprehension, reading and essay-writing.
Pre-sessional English courses
If you are otherwise successful in your application, but narrowly miss the English language requirement for your course we may offer you a place on a 5- or 10-week Pre-Sessional English course before you start your studies at the Conservatoire. Please note that there is an additional fee for these courses.
