Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Orchestra
The collaborations between composer/arranger Gil Evans and trumpeter Miles Davis provided some of the greatest music of the 20th Century. The 1949 recording of Birth of the Cool provided a whole new approach to jazz and a wonderful setting for Miles Davis' playing of that time. Further amazing collaborations culminated in the superb Sketches of Spain in which the links between jazz and Spanish music, especially flamenco, formed the basis of a truly unique piece of music. The Conservatoire Jazz Orchestra (a big band plus harp, oboe, bassoon and French horns) directed by Jeremy Price and featuring top players from one of the leading UK jazz courses recreate that music with Percy Pursglove, graduate and now teacher on the course, as a featured soloist.
