REGER Romantic Suite

The Conservatoire continues its series of Showcase concerts at Symphony Hall as part of the CBSO:2020 series. This evening’s concert, once again conducted by CBSO Associate Conductor Mike Seal, consists of a single work, the Romantic Suite by Max Reger, or to give it its full title, Eine romantische Suite, nach Gedichten von Joseph von Eichendorff. Those who know Reger mainly by his reputation as a rather dry, academic composer (he was, for example, addicted to the fugue) will enjoy the whole-hearted romanticism and rich harmonic language of this little-known but highly engaging composition.
