Mental Health and Learning Disabilities

The nurses we train play a vital role in the care of people affected by mental health problems or learning disabilities.

If you are thinking of becoming a nurse in either the mental health or learning disability fields, we hope that you will consider studying at Birmingham City University.

The Mental Health and Learning Disability team use a range of teaching techniques and tools, including clinical placements, to prepare students for professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

This vibrant and supportive department, part of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, consists of approximately 500 mental health and learning disability undergraduate and post-registered nurses.

As a team, we are dedicated to providing our students with the best possible preparation for this role through a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development courses.

The teaching team also provides educational input specifically around mental health and learning disabilities for adult and child nurses, midwives, speech and language therapists, operating department personnel and social workers.
