Prior to my academic career at Birmingham City University I had a successful and varied career in the National Health Service. I began my career in adult intensive care before moving to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Paediatric Intensive Care to pursue a career in Children’s Cardiac and Intensive Care Nursing. In the following years I held a number of senior posts, my most recent being Research Sister, PICU.

During the past seven years at Birmingham City University I have been module lead for the Diverse Health Care Module which is taught to nursing and education students. More recently I have undertaken a three day course on simulation at Birmingham City University, in preparation for planning a new module, which is assessed using an OSCE.

During my career in the NHS my research interests included nursing workload and family needs, Paediatric Early Warning Systems, and hypothermia in head injury.

Currently I am participating in a Project for Birmingham Children Hospital, where we are running Challenging Behaviour Live Simulation Workshops. My other research interests include and Service User involvement in Child Health and The Experience of the Child with a Disability during an acute hospital admission.
