Beth qualified as a midwife in 2004, initially rotating between the antenatal/ postnatal ward, maternity admissions unit and labour ward before gaining a core role on labour ward at The University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL).

Extensive labour ward skills were obtained and developed though the core midwifery role as she became a senior member of the team.

Beth secured a role within the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) and quality team at UHL. Achievements in this position were reflected in the attainment of both level two and level three status for the UHL Trust. This role developed Beth’s knowledge and interest in evidence-based guidelines, standards of care, documentation requirements and education.

The challenge of a Specialist Teenage Midwife was an opportunity for Beth to reignite her community midwifery skills with a high risk caseload of teenagers and learn the skills necessary to perform a specialised role to a vulnerable group.

Beth joined Birmingham City University in December 2016 in order to fulfil her desire to become a midwifery academic.
