Ann-Marie commenced her career in the NHS as nursing auxiliary and qualified as a General Nurse in 1981 from Selly Oak School of Nursing where she worked in Medicine, Emergency Surgery and Intensive care.

In 1989 she moved to the Queen Elizabeth hospital working in Renal, Liver and Intensive care before qualifying as a clinical teacher and tutor to the Intensive care course in 1993.

In 1995 she moved into higher education and ran a variety of critical care courses and worked as a Route director leading the post-registration framework, apart from working on a variety of validations and projects; a notable one being taking students and staff to Nepal in 2013 on a study programme, whilst trekking to Everest base camp and Kala Patthar.

She has planned and delivered outdoor events so that students can practice first aid scenarios and test their skills outside a hospital setting.

Ann-Marie has accompanied students to Pittsburgh in the US and the Lourdes Pilgrimage in Lourdes, France as part of the HELS Abroad scheme.

She has also been an External Examiner for a professional nursing body, and a variety of universities.
