University welcomes recognition of Nursing Associates

Gerri Nevin, Associate Professor and Head of Department Pre-Qualifying Healthcare Practice at Birmingham City University, welcomes the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s decision to register Nursing Associates with the Council.

Nevin said: “Today is a historic day in the development of our nursing profession and we welcome our Nursing Associate colleagues to the family of nursing.

“We are thrilled to be part of this exciting development, working closely with our practice partner colleagues across Birmingham and Solihull, as our first trainee Nursing Associates will be joining the Nursing and Midwifery Council register in April this year.”

Birmingham City University offers a Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship aimed at training experienced Health Care Assistants to develop their skills to become a Registered Nursing Associate.
