Mark Radford, Visiting Professor at Birmingham City University, is celebrating after being appointed the national Director of Nursing for Improvement at NHS Improvement.
Mark’s new role will see him take on responsibility for issues relating to the national nursing workforce and the quality of nursing care.
He qualified as a nurse in 1994 at Birmingham City University before taking on roles at Heart of England Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire as Chief Nursing Officer.
Alongside his hospital roles, Mark has continued to work with Birmingham City University as a Visiting Professor at the University’s Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences.
Commenting on his new appointment, Mark said: “I’m delighted to take on this new role as Director of Nursing for NHS Improvement, working with Dr Ruth May, the Executive Director of Nursing and supporting our NHS organisations in delivering high quality sustainable care.
Mark will work alongside directors of nursing to support them in having the capacity and capability to improve the way services are delivered for patients, whilst also working closely with partners to develop national programmes and resources to help providers continue to make positive changes for patients.
Louise Toner, Associate Dean at Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences, said: “We are delighted that Mark has secured this prestigious role with NHS improvement.
