Star teacher Stephen Drew of TV’s Educating Essex, will this week slam the “political whims” of the Coalition Government for creating “immense turbulence” in schools.

Speaking to a public event hosted by Birmingham City University’s School of Education (Thursday 13 November), Mr Drew will question the endless round of school reforms and whether politicians understand the need to treat education with "anything other than the greatest reverence”.

The star of both Educating Essex and Mr Drew’s School for Boys, will tell the audience at Birmingham City University's City Talk:

"Education has experienced immense turbulence in the last few years. There is a battle for hearts, minds and votes going on with schools at the centre of political whims. Everyone involved sits in the middle of a storm over exam reform, funding reductions, academisation, free schools, curriculum changes and accountability reforms.

"It is unclear where the reforms of the last decade, and particularly the last four years, will lead us. The question has to be asked about whether it is ever appropriate to carry out radical and constant reform of schools in ways that have destabilising impacts on the education of young people.

"Responsibility for leading education is never something to be treated with anything other than the greatest reverence and sense of privilege.

‘After School with Mr Drew’ will take place at Birmingham City University on Thursday 13 November (6.30pm).  For more information and to book your FREE place please visit Eventbrite.
