Yesterday saw the launch of the iOS 8 upgrade by Apple – the latest version of its mobile operating system, offering an array of new features. However overnight; Apple have been publicly criticised by frustrated users complaining that the software update needs nearly 6GB of free space to install.
Senior Lecturer in Visual Communication, Robert Sharl, has defended the electronics company claiming that teething problems would have been expected.
“I think it's way too early to call on the iOS 8 launch. Typically first-day updates include a few problems that sneak through the door, especially when they're tied into firm dates for hardware releases”, claims Robert.
“Expect to see a bug-fix and rough-edges-removed 8.01 update within a few weeks—and at the latest to coincide with the release of OS X Yosemite on the Mac.
“As far as it goes though, iOS 8 is a generally impressive upgrade with solid features that make existing iPhones and iPads seems fresh and exciting again, and which make working between different devices more seamless. As developers start to take advantage of some of the more advanced features (integrating their apps into the Notification Centre, building interactive actionable alerts, and sharing functionality with other apps) we'll see even more advantages to the update.”
