A group of students at Birmingham City University are taking the Midlands back to the 1920’s next month with a charity fundraising event in Birmingham City Centre.
Inspired by the hit BBC series ‘Peaky Blinders’, the themed charity evening will feature a 1920’s style fashion show and raffles to raise funds for West Midlands homelessness charity, St Basils.
The charity helps over 5,000 young people across the region each year who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, supporting them to regain stability in their lives and rebuild a fulfilling future.
It’s estimated that there are 20,000 homeless people in Birmingham, with their reasons for homelessness including job loss, release from prison or hospital, relationship breakdown and domestic violence.
The Peaky Blinders charity evening takes place at The Vaults in the Jewellery Quarter on Friday 3 March and has been organised by seven Fashion Business and Promotion students at Birmingham City University.
Sophie Johnson, lecturer in Fashion Business and Promotion at Birmingham City University, said: “This year we have some great events that our students are organising to raise funds for St Basils, including this Peaky Blinders event, as well as a George Michael tribute night and Birmingham’s biggest 90’s roller disco.
