Birmingham City University wins Times Higher Education Award

UNIVERSITY NEWS LAST UPDATED : 29 OCTOBER 2013

Birmingham City University’s International Office has won a prestigious national award for 2011 at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards.

The University was presented with the prize for Best International Strategy at the ceremony which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Thursday 16 June.

The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards or THELMAS are held to honour higher education’s best leaders, managers and administrators. Prizes were awarded in a total of 16 categories, covering everything from fundraising to human resources, research management to student services.

Higher "international awareness"

The judges commended that the University’s strategic approach “has resulted in a step change in organisational international awareness and positive impact on the corporate brand and delivery of key international objectives.”

Cheryl Badhams, Director of the International Office said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this important accolade. It reflects a lot of hard work by the team but also the dedicated support received from colleagues across the University and those based in the many partner organisations we work with, home and abroad.”

The 2011 honour follows another Times Higher Award. In 2010 the University was named as the provider of the most ‘Outstanding Support for Students’, in recognition of its Student Academic Partners Scheme (SAP) scheme which is a unique partnership involving the University and its Students’ Union.
