Birmingham City University welcomed former students, along with potential new ones, as part of its first reception in Thailand this week.
Hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Cliff Allan, the event in Bangkok celebrated the achievements of the University’s near 400 Thai alumni, with many now holding prominent positions in business, the arts, computing and engineering.
Birmingham City University’s alumni occupy senior positions in a wide range of organisations across Thailand including IBM, The International Civil Aviation Organization, Marriott Hotels, McCann Worldgroup, Mitsubishi Motors, SCG and Zalora.
Held at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel on Monday 26 April, the event also gave current applicants the opportunity to hear about the highlights of the University’s year and its plans for the future.
Professor Cliff Allan, Vice-Chancellor, Birmingham City University said:
“The reception in Bangkok offered a chance for guests to network with other alumni of the University in Thailand and share their successes since graduating, as well as fond memories of their time studying and living in Birmingham.
“We are immensely proud of all our alumni and I thoroughly enjoyed updating our Thai graduates on the latest developments of the University, both in Thailand and back in the UK.”
In Birmingham, the University is mid-way through a £260 million investment programme, including a major expansion of its City Centre Campus, together with ongoing development of existing sites.
Professor Allan added:
“The event in Bangkok was also a unique opportunity for Thai applicants to find out first-hand what it is like to be a student at Birmingham City University from those who have paved the way before them.” Following an address by the Vice-Chancellor at the Bangkok event, guests enjoyed a talk from alumnus Alistair Gretarsson, who now lives in the Thai capital and works as Chair of Communications for UNICEF Thailand.
Alistair graduated in 2002 from Birmingham City University with an MA in Media Production and took the opportunity to share experiences of his time as a student at the institution.
