Biography
Jon Hickman is BA Degree Leader in Web & New Media at the School of Media. He is also a research active member of the teaching staff, involved in scholarly research and business engagement projects around social media and new media. He is currently working with a number of partners across the city, exploring how they could use social media and web 2.0 technologies within their businesses. These projects provide an opportunity to apply our research in these areas, and provide a valuable opportunity to link real world case studies to teaching practice within the School of Media.
Lecturer in Interactive Cultures
Jon teaches media theory and production across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Birmingham School of Media, Birmingham City University. Specialist areas taught include web and social media production techniques, social media, visual culture, and digital culture. Jon also leads the BA (Hons) Media and Communication (Web and New Media) degree specialism within the school, including evaluating and developing our courses, as well as networking with industry and recruiting and managing visiting lecturers and guest speakers.
Digital Champion
Jon works with companies across Birmingham on social media and web-based projects. The project, delivered for BCU on behalf of Digital Birmingham, is a small part of a much larger programme utilising Working Neighbourhood funds managed by Birmingham City Council. Academic Supervisor (KTP with Big Cat)
Jon is the Academic Supervisor for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Birmingham City University and Big Cat. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is Europe's leading programme helping businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. Jon has previously worked on a KTP with Essential Equipment. and has worked on a range of knowledge transfer projects.
