Get diverse with the upcoming media festival

Our students are hosting a festival of media activities throughout Birmingham this week, 5 to 8 May, as part of the University's annual, student-run Media Festival.

Organised by the School's first year students, the free-to-attend festival features photo exhibitions to documentaries, magazines and websites, and aims explore diversity in culture, fashion, architecture and gaming.

Students were given the brief to focus on the topic of diversity and the influences of diversity on life and society in the UK. Michael Smith, first year Media and Communication (Journalism) student said:

Diversity

Through their work, students created different media projects to depict diversity in a particular field of interest. One of the projects explored the myths and stereotypes around gamers and gaming culture, through a video exhibition.

Another group of students chose to design and launch a new website cataloguing positive examples of positive representations in the media.
