Scholarships and Fee Waivers

Birmingham School of Media offer discounts on our fees to help with your financial costs. Check to see if you are eligible to benefit from our discounts. The discounts will only be applied if you received an offer for the course and confirm you have accepted it.

Please note: The fees below apply to distance learners ONLY on the following postgraduate courses (Social Media, Online Journalism, Music Industries, Creative Industries and Cultural Policy, Screen Studies, Music Heritage and Jazz Studies).

Loyalty discount For Birmingham City University graduates who have successfully completed a degree in the last 12 months 10% discount on tuition fee.
Application test You will be invited to submit an application for a discount based on the criteria of benefit to the applicant and potential contribution to the course. 20% discount on tuition fee.

International (Distance Learning) Tuition Fee Waivers

New Technology Institute Excellence award First class degree or equivalent score (above 70% or GPA 4.0) 10% discount on tuition fee.
Loyalty discount For Birmingham City University graduates who have successfully completed a degree in the last 12 months 10% discount on tuition fee.
Language score Overall scores higher than IELTS 7.0 or equivalent 10% discount on tuition fee.
Application test You will be invited to submit an application for a discount based on the criteria of benefit to the applicant and potential contribution to the course. 20% discount on tuition fee.

Industry Endorsement Criteria

You are to provide three industry endorsement letters, which recommend your suitability for your specified industry. These endorsements need to be from at least two different organisations, which you have, either worked for or completed a minimum of two-month internship.

The letter needs to have information about the following:

  1. Length of internship or employment
  2. Relationship to referee
  3. A brief description of your role and responsibilities within the organisation
  4. Any examples of specific project / work which are relevant to your studies
  5. Suitability / potential to work in the specified industry if your experience is in a different field
  6. Review of communication skills eg presentation skills, report writing or teamwork
  7. Review of specific skills requirements related to the course e.g. programming, journalism skills or sales.
  8. Includes confirmation that Birmingham City University may contact the employer for further information.
  9. The letter must be on company letter headed paper, signed and with a contact email and phone number. We may contact your referee for further information or clarification.
