Keeping Safe
We want you to be safe and happy during your time in the UK. Most safety advice is common sense but it can make a real difference. The police in the UK are friendly and helpful and in the event of an emergency they can be contacted by dialling 999. For a non-emergency minor crime it is best to contact a local police station. A few general tips for safety in the UK include:
- Do not carry large sums of cash on you.
- Where possible try not to use subways. If you have to use a subway ensure that it is well lit and that you are with other people.
- When you leave your accommodation always check that all windows and doors are locked.
- If you are returning home late at night either walk in a group, use well lit pavements or use public transport.
- Always ensure your bag or your personal belongings are safe. Never leave your bag unattended.
