Cheryl is the Assistant Dean of BIFCA appointed by BCU. She has overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the programmes at BIFCA. She is in charge of the planning and implementation of BIFCA academic matters and quality assurance. She also works as Director of Programmes for the three programmes at BIFCA, including BA (Hons) Visual Communication, BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture and BSc (Hons) Digital Media Technology. Cheryl joined Birmingham City University in 2013 and has co-funded BIFCA.
Cheryl obtained her Bachelor degree at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, pursued her research postgraduate degree at University of Southampton, then completed her PhD at Birmingham City University. She has worked in higher education since 2008. With her research focusing on the comparative study of art and design higher education between China and the UK, she emphasises on Chinese students’ acquisition of knowledge through practice-led learning curriculum. When most Chinese students are used to the teacher-centered educational approach, she encourages the culture of active participation and critical reflection at BIFCA in order to promote the student engagement to be part of the community.
She also works as art director working with some artists for a few international exhibitions. She is currently co-editing a textbook for Chinese art and design higher education to be published in 2017.
