On Saturday 10 June, Birmingham City University will throw open its doors to families for an action-packed day of free and fun-filled events and activities for all ages.

From photography to fashion, and architecture to TV broadcasting, there will be lots for families to do, experience and be inspired by at our multi-million pound City Centre Campus, situated in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside.

Part of the University’s annual Inspired Festival, this event will also showcase the talent and creativity of our Arts, Design and Media students, as well as give visitors the chance to meet with our world-class academics, who are training the next generation of creative professionals.

Activities will include* drop in make-and-take sessions, family portrait experience, exhibitions, make a TV show, guided tours, jewellery making, textile and embroidery workshops, historical object handling, design your own building, science busking, food and drink** and much, much more!

Get crafty
Take part in various craft workshops including fluffy bug making, make your own graduation hat, and design and decorate your own bag. All to take home with you. Colouring-in also available for younger visitors.

Drawing and collage
Based on the theme of journeys, memories and holidays – take part in a GIANT floor drawing, and share some of the best journeys you have ever been on! Participants will get a Birmingham School of Architecture and Design sketchbook to take away with them.

Model making and reading space
Continuing with the theme of journeys, create your very own model of a train or train station. Then pull up a bean bag and get comfortable in our specially designed reading space, with all kinds of books about train rides and trains.

Pendant making workshop 
Learn the art of jewellery making and try your hand at metal stamping to create your very own copper pendant to take home.

Be a news presenter
Experience what it’s like to be in front of the camera as you learn what it takes to be a news presenter and deliver your very own news bulletin in our TV studio. 

Suitable for ages 7+. Guests must book on arrival as spaces are limited.

Family portrait experience
Learn what it takes to master the perfect family portrait, from the correct lighting to striking the perfect pose! Take home a digital copy of your finished photo.

Virtual reality
Try out our virtual reality headset and experience a series of virtual environments. 

Suitable for ages 7+. Drop in session.

Xtreme drone racing
Try your hand at drone racing with computer games designed by our students. Navigate your way past iconic Birmingham locations as you try and complete the course.

Animation workshop
Learn how to draw some of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time and even learn how to mimic their sounds with the actual voice of Scooby Doo and Johnny Bravo.

Create your very own ‘Space Invader’ game
Learn how to code your very own 2D Space Invaders game.

Suitable for ages 12+. Guests must book on arrival as spaces are limited.

Screen print a tea-towel
Learn the practice of silk screen printing. Using a variety of patterned screens and stencils create your own one-of-a-kind multi coloured tea towel to take away with you.

Personalised badge making
Make your own personalised digitally embroidered badge. Use computer software to design your badge and watch it stitch out for you on our digital embroidery machines.

Join Thinktank Museum Enablers and take part in mini science experiments, handle super animal collections and fascinating historic objects!
