It's vitally important for students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to patients or clients within a practice-based setting.
That’s why most of our courses offer an equal split between placement and class-based study.
What happens on Placements
Placements help you develop the knowledge and skills required to be successful in your future career
While on placement you will be expected to adopt the working hours of your department. This could involve working shifts, including late and night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.

Placement support
We offer help to cover all aspects of your placement.
When you go on placement, you will be allocated a placement tutor, who will be contactable and may visit you during the placement.
Department of Practice Learning
The Department of Practice Learning offers a comprehensive range of resources to help students on placement. The DPL is staffed by a team of nurses and administrators who are on hand to ensure that you make the best use of your practical learning environments.

Help when and where you need it
When on placement, you will be able to access Moodle, our online virtual learning environment. This will enable you to communicate with your tutors and fellow students and gain help and advice when and where necessary.
Inter-professional learning
To help you prepare for working collaboratively with colleagues, inter-professional learning is incorporated in all of our courses.
This will help you to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to work as a team across different professions, and help you appreciate input from others.
Inter-professional events provide the opportunity to debate and explore problems with other students in order to gain a greater insight into alternative disciplines.
