The Personal Development Department (PDD) is staffed by academic support staff who understand your concerns and will answer your questions by email, over the phone or face-to-face.

Gain accreditation for prior learning
You can apply to be accredited for modules within programmes if you can provide evidence that you have previously met the module's learning outcomes at the appropriate level.
Also previously attained credits can be used in conjunction with your current study at Birmingham City University, leading to an academic award.
If you have a shortfall of credits for entry into a proogramme of study but a wealth of experience, you can work with us to gain the further credits you need to access your desired programme.

Personal Development for Life Long Learning
We have a dedicated 'Professional Navigator' who can help you to develop a Personal Development Learning Plan as part of your Continuous Professional Development.
This can help you meet your individual academic development needs with a range of modules and short programmes.
Academic Skills Development
We offer support to help you develop across the two broad areas of academic writing and numeracy applied to practice. This support can be workshops and small group or individual tutorials, related to academic writing, critical analysis, literature searching skills, referencing and numeracy.
There is also English Language Support for students whose first language is not English.
