A Birmingham City University student is celebrating after winning a £3,000 prize and being recognised as a ‘future talent’ at Graduate Fashion Week.
21 year-old Charnice Blaize wowed global fashion retailer ASOS with her dissertation project which challenges perceptions of what being ‘urban’ in the UK means.
“Being urban isn’t about being perfect and it’s not subjective to a race, gender or age”, said Charnice, who hails from Northampton and studies Fashion Business and Promotion.
“Being urban is about being expressive, being innovative, being truthful and being proud. The urban community is full of so many talented and passionate individuals and I want to celebrate their successes.
Since completing her research project, Charnice has gone on to set up her own business called ‘Blaized’, an online platform empowering UK urban culture.
Graduate Fashion Week attracts 30,000 guests each June and showcases the work of over 1,000 of the very best students and graduates from the most influential and inspiring universities around the world.
Charnice graduates from Birmingham City University’s School of Fashion and Textiles in July after securing a first in every module across her three years of study and completing work placements with River Island and British rapper Tinie Tempah.
