Mohammad Farazi

Biography

Dr Farazi was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Trento (UNITN) in the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science from May 2010 to May 2015. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science at UNITN in 2010. He was involved in the Open Data Trentino (ODT) project for the development of a large scale Knowledge Base with data originating from the data catalog of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

He has also worked on the Semantic Geo-Catalog (SGC) project. The goal of the SGC project was to extend the Geo-Catalog of the Autonomous Province of Trento with semantic capability to better serve user queries. Between 2012 to 2015 he taught Semantic Web for the masters course entitled Logics for Data and Knowledge Representation.

His academic career began in 2001 with teaching at undergraduate level in Bangladesh at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, where he was responsible for conducting both theoretical classes and hands-on sessions until 2003. Another three years at the University of Chittagong in Bangladesh enriched his career, comprising a total of 5 years of undergraduate level teaching experience.

Supervised students:

  • Md Rashedul Hasan (Dr Farazi co-supervsed Dr. Rashedul’s PhD thesis on ontology based systems development at UNITN)
  • Hui Yang (He guided ontology validation work of Dr Hui’s Postdoc exchange studies at UNITN)
  • Amarsanaa Ganbold (He guided ontology localization work of Amarsanaa in his exchange PhD studies at UNITN)

Research

Based in Knowledge Based Engineering Lab as an expert of semantics Dr Farazi is currently performing full-time research in the EnAlgae project funded by the INTERREG IVB North West Europe programme. In this project he is contributing in the area of Knowledge Based Decision Support System.

He is actively participating in the research activities that deal with data semantics, ontology based data access and all aspects of search, for example keyword search, faceted search and semantic search as well as hybrid search named as faceted smart search in the context of the project.

The research activity of Dr Farazi also includes effective use of referential semantics in developing pilot scale and lab scale decision support tools and technologies and quantification of the potential added value through the inclusion of semantics and ontology in design automation.
