Katie has a well-earned reputation as a student who is constantly engaged with students, lectures and University activities. She has recently won a University Extra Mile Award for Student Representative of the Year for her contributions to board of study meetings and focus groups within her school.
Katie has also been praised by a number of staff and students as someone who always goes the extra mile to represent her fellow students, reflected by her success in this year’s Students’ Union elections, winning the role of Mature and Postgraduate Student Officer.
In addition to her new role, Katie is well known among staff and students for her work as a course representative, directly liaising with her course director based on feedback received from students on her course.
One of her nominators writes: “Katie always goes above and beyond the call of duty, always asking if there is something that could be done to improve the student experience, before acting upon it. She always listens to her classmates and offers them help and support, sometimes staying at University all day, even if she is only personally required to be there for a few hours.”
The decision to split classes on her course into two separate groups was as a direct result of Katie’s work, helping to address student feedback on class sizes. She has also been praised for her commitment to her classmates, accompanying friends to important meetings and helping liaise with Student Services to provide support where appropriate.
Katie’s work does not finish with her responsibilities as a student representative, she has also worked on a major project with the Students’ Union to help develop a toolkit for course representatives across the whole University, ensuring that students in every school can get the most out of their experience.
