Luxury brands are a global concern, and are tailored to appeal to certain demographics and certain businesses. On this course, you’ll learn the specialist skills and expertise needed for a successful career in luxury brand management, gaining the knowledge and attributes employers crave.
You’ll learn how luxury brands are managed in the international marketplace, as well as looking at branding from the perspective of both producers and consumers.
If you’re looking to start this course in 2017, it's important to know that the content and structure are undergoing a substantial review and are likely to be different to what is outlined here. We’ll publish more detailed information about the changes over the next few months. If you’re starting in 2016, the course content/structure won’t be affected by the review.

The module is an introduction to the management of the marketing function. It establishes the centrality of a Marketing Orientation for successful businesses. It also demonstrates how marketing activity impacts on and interacts with the other functions of a business.
This module provides you with a well-rounded view of Management and Human Resource Management, taking in a range of organisational structures, industries and cultures of practice. It also provides you with foundation materials in Human Resource Management.
This module is designed to develop knowledge of visualisation and other forms of analogue and digital based techniques. This will provide you with the knowledge and abilities required in presenting marketing and advertising media. You will learn to develop appropriate methods using various techniques to demonstrate understanding of a service sector or product, selecting and adapting methods as appropriate and evaluating the effectiveness of the chosen methods as applied in practice.
In this module you’ll develop an understanding of the main financial objectives of a company and the constraints from other parts of an organisation that impact on the objectives. You’ll develop an understanding of accounting techniques used by enterprise managers to facilitate decision-making and control within the organisation as well as performance monitoring externally.
Global Business Strategy
In this module, you’ll learn the strategic decisions that organisations make from within a rational framework. The rational frameworks that the module addresses are concerned with the economic, market, finance and resources based constraints that affect this decision making process. The module critically examines the strategic management process as it applies to internationally oriented organisations in their attempts to remain competitive within their ever changing and demanding international environments.
Personal Project (Research)
This module introduces you to a range of research methods, contexts, procedures and resources appropriate to the level and scope required for research practice. The hypothesis and learning methods you develop results in a research report.
You’ll conduct a detailed investigation into the commercial and technical factors that apply to your chosen topic (as developed through the tutorial/seminar programme and subject to the approval of the course team). You’ll demonstrate mastery of the research techniques learnt in this module, resulting in a definitive formal project hypothesis.
This module tests the hypothesis of your research from the previous module resulting in a substantial report supported by research findings or design work (theory-led) and a multimedia presentation of the project outcomes. Even the most practice-based projects must be presented in the context of relevant theory and the theory projects must contain some practical element (balance to be negotiated).
You’ll study full-time, over one year. The modules will use methods of learning, teaching and assessment which are appropriate to Masters-level study.
A proportion of contact time will be spent in teaching, but there will also be an emphasis on group work and group discussion. This way you can discuss with your classmates important issues and innovative ideas, sharing thoughts and opinions.
We also use case studies to enable you to understand, see the relevance and apply the general theory and content to the appropriate topic. You’ll also be expected to research and incorporate material from your specialist area into your assessments and coursework.
Upon graduating you’ll have the skills needed for a number of roles within the luxury brand sector. There will be management and design professions available, as well as roles in different sectors.

This course is based at our City Centre Campus – and specifically The Curzon Building, alongside other Social Sciences, Law, Business and English students.
The £63m building offers students a unique social learning space, including a dedicated student hub incorporating student support services, in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside development.
The Business floors house an extensive number of IT facilities, breakout areas, and specialised rooms. The Marketing Link Agency is designed to replicate a modern marketing firm, allowing students to get real-life experience of working in the marketing sector. There is also the City Trading Room, which features state of the art stock market tracking equipment, keeping you up to date with all the financial comings and goings of the London Stock Exchange and Wall Street.
The Curzon building is also conveniently close to Birmingham’s business and financial centre, allowing for strong links between your studies and the real world.
Dr Panch Suntharalingam is the course director for MA Design and Visualisation and the lead academic for MA Luxury Brand Management, MA Luxury Jewellery Management, and MA Luxury Product Management.
