Course Outline
Course Structure
This practical and highly relevant course squarely addresses the daily working realities and future challenges of your professional role.
You initially cover the four modules of the Postgraduate Certificate phase of the course, before progressing to the Diploma. Following this, you will have the chance to progress your studies to Master’s level via the MA Human Resource Management, which asks you to produce an individually researched, fully supervised report of 10,000 words.
The module Leading, managing and developing people runs in your first term, providing an introduction to the pivotal issues relating to human resource in contemporary business.
Your second term looks at Resourcing and talent management, investigating the complexities of human interaction within corporate structures, and how prudent, clear, decisive leadership can positively impact on individual and team morale, boosting business efficiency. This module provides a strategic approach to attracting and retaining staff.
You will enjoy ample opportunity to apply your new skills through workshops covering selection interviewing, negotiations and a range of key skills which mirror current professional working practices.
The Postgraduate Diploma begins straight after you complete your Postgraduate Certificate. Carrying out your own research under the supervision of a member of our Business School staff, you get the chance to explore a live human resource issue of your choice, perhaps within your own organisation.
Workshops covering research methods ensure you acquire the academic tools to successfully locate, distil and apply information and data to reach satisfying conclusions.
Further modules involve discussion of the implementation of coaching and mentoring, an examination of employment law, and the management of performance.
On successful completion, you will be able to bring insight, clarity and vision to your role as a human resource specialist. You see how organisational decisions immediately impact on employees.
You will have the confidence to suggest coaching and mentoring initiatives within your organisation, deal with legal aspects of employment, and design and implement performance management models.
You will have the knowledge and capabilities to move to positions of influence within any organisation.
Assessments
In the first two years of the course, assessment takes place by examinations and both individual and group assignments.
