Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (part of Birmingham City University) invites initial Expressions of Interest in our PhD programme, with a view to identifying those applications with the potential to progress to the fully-funded studentship scheme run by the Faculty of the Arts, Design and Media at BCU.
We welcome proposals relating to our specialisms in the following areas:
- Music Technology
- Performance Research
- Performing Arts
Information on Conservatoire research staff and their specialisms can be found on our Groups and Specialisms page.
Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is home to world-leading research; REF 2014 confirmed our position as the leading UK conservatoire for ‘research power’. We have a lively community of 50 doctoral researchers undertaking a wide range of projects. Students benefit from the facilities in our new £57-million building, the first conservatoire to be built in the digital age, and from access to high-level performers and musicians.
Our programme offers the flexibility to present your research in a range of formats, depending on the nature of your research, whether it be fully text-based or practical (composition, performance or scholarly edition) with a written element.
Initial Expressions of Interest should be made via the PhD page on our website. The deadline for the studentships (covering Home/EU fees and stipend at RCUK rates) is likely to be in June. The competition is open to home, EU and international students.
For any enquiries please contact the Research Degrees Coordinator, Dr Carrie Churnside.
