Richard Leigh Harris (b.1956, Bristol) studied at the Birmingham School of Music(Conservatoire) and at Reading University, where he was awarded the degree of M.Mus.

He has been a visiting tutor in Composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire since 1990 and is also a part-time tutor for the Oxford University Department of Continuing Education. Richard is also a pianist, harpsichordist and writer on various aspects of contemporary music. He has broadcast on radio, Japanese television and released various CDs, chiefly as pianist in the free improvisation trio OxJams.

Principal compositions include nine string quartets, "Our Days Were A Joy and Our Paths Through Flowers" for jazz ensemble, the "encore" series (I -XIII), "Zawn" for two pianos, "Kuro Haiku" a cycle for guitar & harpsichord, "Majestas" for organ, plus many piano pieces.

Richard's memoir "The Days of Our Vanity" was published by SilverWood Books in 2012.

After living in Oxford for nearly three decades, he returned to live in Bristol in 2008 and married in 2010.
