Studio Owner, Engineer, Producer
Graduated in 2012
Owain Jenkins set up his recording studio, StudiOwz, after graduating. He has worked with many artists as an engineer and producer, including members of The Noisettes, Welsh Music Prize nominee Jodie Marie, plus fellow Conservatoire graduates Jimmy Brewer and Leo Appleyard.
Tracks recorded by Owain at StudiOwz have been played on BBC Radio 2, Radio Wales and Radio Cymru, as well as XFM and Amazing Radio. Owain has also produced and engineered sessions at other studios, including Monnow Valley, Urchin Studios, The Fish Factory and Toe Rag Studio.
“I studied Music Technology and Composition at the Conservatoire, which exposed me to lots of new concepts in music and recording, which really broadened my horizons. In addition to this, having great young musicians to practice with was a massive asset, as were the technology facilities.”
He added, “So many of the skills I learned from my tutors are now things I use on a daily basis, from technical ideas as an Engineer to musical ideas as a Producer. I experienced so many new things that by the time I began working in the real world, I was equipped to deal with most things that were thrown at me. I’m very grateful for the guidance and encouragement I was given during my time in Birmingham.”
