In Process: Perspectives on collaborative theatre in Brazil

Brazil has one of the most vibrant theatre cultures in the world, with a wide variety of theatrical expression. This seminar draws on 15 interviews with leading contemporary Brazilian directors, performers and choreographers, exploring their approaches to and experiences in creative theatre. They describe a collaborative environment in which practitioners are concerned with fundamental questions about how productions are staged, and discuss the interdisciplinary climate that predominated beginning the 1980s.

Aleksander Dundjerovic is Associate Professor in Performing Arts at BCU and an internationally award winning professional theatre director. In his 26-year theatre career, he has directed across Britain, Ireland, Serbia, Romania, Iran, Colombia, Japan, Brazil and Canada. His practice as research involves a unique approach to staging/adapting theatre text using multimedia arts combined with live performance in the adaptation of well-established and canonical theatre texts. He also works within cultural/social contexts of international theatre, investigating ways in which theatre performance changes and transforms as a result of the audience's input and participation.
