International Students

All courses at Birmingham School of Acting require a high level of English. All teaching is in English, as are all performances and assessments.

International candidates should be able to demonstrate their proficiency in the use of English. This may be tested in auditions/interviews.

Evidence of the following qualifications should be provided with the application:

BA (Hons) Acting

  • An IELTS (International English Testing System) score of 6.5
  • A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least: 575 (paper-based test )/ 90 (internet-based test) / 232 (computer-based test)

BA (Hons) Community and Applied Theatre / Dance Theatre

  • An IELTS score of 6.5
  • A TOEFL score of at least 575 (paper-based test) / 90 (internet-based test) / 232 (computer-based test)

BA (Hons) Stage Management

  • An IELTS score of 6.0
  • A TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based test) / 79 (internet-based test) / 213 (computer-based test)

MA / PgDip Acting

  • An IELTS score of 7.0
  • A TOEFL score of at least 600 (paper-based test) / 100 (internet-based test) / 250 (computer-based test)

MA Acting: The British Tradition

  • An IELTS score of 6.5
  • A TOEFL score of at least 575 (paper-based test) / 90 (internet-based test) / 232 (computer-based test)

MA Professional Voice Practice

  • An IELTS score of 6.5
  • A TOEFL score of at least 575 (paper-based test) / 90 (internet-based test) / 232 (computer-based test)
