Conservatoire students premiere Christmas composition

UNIVERSITY NEWS LAST UPDATED : 15 DECEMBER 2014

An award-winning composer was in attendance at the University Carol Service on Thursday 4 December to hear the premiere of his new piece by Conservatoire students.

The Conservatoire’s Camerata Choir, conducted by student Nicola Starkie, performed the piece I sing of a maiden by composer David Fawcett, who travelled from Dorset to hear the performance.

David said: "Nicola read about my work on Facebook and contacted me asking if she could put together a performance."

David has over 30 years’ experience of working with choirs and has a high profile as a composer of choral works.

David said: "The performance by the Conservatoire students was perfectly paced and combined clarity of texture with warmth of sound.

"I hope that this is not the last time that we are able to collaborate, I would love to compose something specifically for the choir to premiere in the future."
