Business graduate starts innovative new UK business

A business graduate has started an innovative new business for lending and borrowing unwanted items.

Matt Dredger, a former BA Business student, swapped his career in the corporate world to set up BorroClub, a website which enables people to share and lend household items, whether it be a tool for a one-off job, an introduction to an instrument or to free up storage space.

"The idea came to me as I was clearing out my garage," Matt said. "I realised how much stuff I had accumulated, and thought someone else could be using it. I decided to apply my knowledge of consumer-business rental and set up BorroClub."

Matt studied at Birmingham City University while working in the financial sector, and praised the quality of support he received from our academic staff.

Matt is currently looking to work in partnership with the University students to help them save and make money by using BorroClub to lend out and borrow items.

The sharing economy is an emerging part of business, and Matt credits the University for helping him to understand this part of the sector, as he was able to apply what he learnt to his business.

What advice would Matt give to current and future students? “Have no fear. And follow what you believe in.”
