What our students say
Here are some examples of what our graduates have achieved:
BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai recently caused a buzz among the world’s media. This incredible, five-year feat of construction saw the building proclaimed as the world’s tallest building, standing at more than 800 metres (2,625 feet) tall and over 160 stories.
The Managing Quantity Surveyor for the project was Dean Zane, one of our former students. He landed the role with joint venture company EV-ETA, Voltas and Hitachi after graduating in Quantity Surveying.
Dean, a mature student, completed his degree in 2001 after four years of full-time study. Previously he had been an electrical design engineer but was made redundant during the 1996 recession. As design engineering includes estimation of costs, Dean took the logical step in deciding to study Quantity Surveying. He was also drawn to the course because it was sanctioned by industry body RICS.
BSc (Hons) Real Estate
Real Estate graduate Lisa Hastilow won the regional Women in Property award in 2007. Her achievement was featured in Property Week magazine and the local press.
Lisa chose The Birmingham School of the Built Environment because she felt it offered the best opportunities for becoming a property surveyor.
Lisa has been employed by leading global property advisor and surveying practice Jones Lang LaSalle since September 2008, working in investor property management.
