The Centre for Business Innovation and Enterprise (CBIE – pronounced ‘Cee-Bee’) is the flagship of the high quality academic research movement within Birmingham City Business School (BCBS). CBIE is located at the centre of Britain’s industrial heartland alongside many of the blue chip companies with whom it undertakes research programmes and knowledge transfer partnerships (KTPs). The Centre has a proven track record of collaborative research with both public and private sectors, as well as a history of delivering bespoke research projects for industrial and commercial partners throughout the UK and beyond. The knowledge generated by CBIE‘s research activities feeds into an extensive programme of innovative BCBS undergraduate and postgraduate awards, industry short courses, conference events and other scholarly provisions. Integrating research and professional practice into taught courses in this way ensures that students and practitioners benefit from delivery of cutting edge contemporary knowledge and working practices, whilst studying at BCBS.
CBIE’s mission is:
“To maintain its pre-eminent position as the leading centre of excellence for business innovation and enterprise and to preserve the invaluable bond that exists between the centre and global business. Furthermore, to ensure that the products of its academics’ scholarly endeavours directly contribute to taught provisions at all levels of study.”
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise conducted by The Higher Education Funding Council for England, all of the Business School's work on entrepreneurship and innovation was considered to have national significance, the majority of the work was officially recognised as having international significance, and some of its work was classified world leading.
