Applicant Taster Days

Outline of the day’s activities

Registration

AVD registration

Please register in the atrium of The Parkside Building. Your registration time will depend on which day you are visiting:

  • Wednesday: Register between 11:15am and midday
  • Saturday: Register between 9:00am and 9:45am
Introduction to the day and tour of the Parkside Building, given by a member of staff from Birmingham School of Architecture and Design

This is optional if you have been to an Open Day already but we think it's a great opportunity for everyone, even if you've visited before, to remind yourself of Parkside's facilities.

Welcome and project briefing (followed by work on the project)

This will run as one group exercise but it is an individual project. We have organised a fun activity to give you an insight into what it is like working in the design studio, and to enable staff to get a good appraisal of your design, drawing and model making skills 'live' on the day.

Guests (parents/carers) will be able to discuss any questions with staff during this time too.

Review of project work

Throughout the course of the project activity, you will be asked questions and given feedback on your design process and the final outcome on the day. Therefore, it is a great opportunity for you to showcase your abilities and to learn more about design, communication and representation.

Discussion of any electronic or physical portfolios

If you have submitted a portfolio via our online submission form, or if you have brought in a physical portfolio with you, you will have the opportunity to discuss this with staff during the activity session.

Accommodation

If you have not visited for an Open Day, you will have the opportunity to visit a room in a flat at nearby student accommodation.

Please note this is an indicative schedule of events and times.
