Aydan worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS for over 20 years, before moving to higher education in 2012. Her clinical experience includes working with children and young people with language disorders, people with complex needs, including down syndrome, and people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Aydan is interested in collaborative and inter-professional learning and working and carried out research in this area for her MPhil. She has been working closely with colleagues on the PGCE Primary and Early Years course to develop collaborative teaching and learning for our students.

Aydan is passionate about equity of access and participation in relation to both Speech and Language Therapy and Higher education. She is EDI champion for the School of Health Sciences and a member of the committee of the LGBTQ+ Staff forum. She is also a member of the Athena Swan working party for the School of Health sciences. Aydan is currently a PhD candidate, looking at families’ experiences of access to preschool Speech and Language Therapy services.

Aydan's other roles include membership of the HELS Faculty Ethics Committee; jointly coordinating the international Programme: IP Light, and providing external training to local Speech and Language Therapy Departments and schools.
