Education Liaison
Lyn Holder, Head of Outreach and Enquiry Management
Lyn started in the Marketing and Communications Department in February 2009 as Head of Advice and Guidance with a remit to pull together the outward facing services of the university, including reception, switchboard, education liaison and Choices. Previously she worked at the University of Wolverhampton, where she spent the last five years managing the Higher Education Shop, an open access service giving advice and guidance to potential university students. Latterly in that role she also had responsibility for managing the University open days and UCAS events. Lyn also has experience in schools liaison as she was responsible for all aspects of education liaison in the Business School at the University of Wolverhampton prior to moving to the role of Higher Education Shop manager.
Sarah Cole, Senior Education Liaison Officer
Sarah has previous experience of advising mature students at both FE and HE. She provided summer courses for adults in Art & Design and managed a Saturday art school and summer school programmes aiming to raise aspirations for local pupils to continue into Higher Education. In her present role she is participating in Birmingham City University's widening participation programme and has particular responsibility for the Birmingham City University Masterclass Programme.
Kulwinder Bradford, Education Liaison Officer
Kulwinder first joined the Education Liaison team in January 2008 as an Interim Student Outreach where she managed the Birmingham City University mentoring and student ambassador programme. Kulwinder has now become a permanent member of staff and has moved into the role of an Education liaison Officer. She is involved in the organisation and delivery of school/college visits, workshops, open days’, attendance at Higher Education/careers fairs around the country.
Lorraine Dyer, Education Liaison Officer
Since graduating in 2000,
Lorraine has worked within Higher Education. Before starting at Birmingham City
University, Lorraine's role in Student Recruitment involved the organisation of
open days, school/college visits, workshops, managing education liaison events
and the implementation of a student ambassador scheme. Lorraine's continued
enjoyment of education liaison work led her to her role at Birmingham City
University participating in all the education liaison activities but with a leading role currently in managing the University wide
open days and recruitment activities.
Dan Hughes, Open Day Coordinator
Dan has worked in Higher Education since graduating with a
degree in Psychology in 2008. He previously worked in Widening Participation at
the University of Liverpool before joining the Education Liaison team at
Birmingham City University. During his time in Higher Education Dan has
provided support and guidance to students from primary age through to mature
adult learners. During his first year at Birmingham City University he worked
as an Education Liaison Support Officer supporting the Education Liaison
Officers in their duties promoting Higher Education throughout the West
Midlands. His current role involves coordinating the University Open Days which
see thousands of prospective students visit the University’s campuses each year
to sample life as a student at Birmingham City University.
Phil Lumby, Education Liaison Officer
Phil has been employed within Higher Education since graduating as a mature student in 2002. In an education liaison role, Phil has worked with a diverse range of students at schools and colleges, from pre-16 pupils to Access students. This is a rewarding role, helping prospective university students make informed decisions about their futures. This involves producing and delivering a wide range of presentations and workshops within schools and colleges and on-campus visits, attending UCAS events, Higher Education and Careers Fairs, and working at Summer Schools. Phil joined the Education Liaison team at Birmingham City University in October 2009.
Megan Hubbard, Student Outreach Officer
At university, Megan became heavily involved in community projects as a volunteer; particularly with schools and young people. Megan carried forward this experience to Aston University, where she worked for one year as an Outreach Assistant, supporting the Aimhigher Mentoring (HE mentoring) scheme, Aimhigher Summer School, and Student Volunteering. Megan joined Birmingham City University in November 2010 as Student Outreach Officer with the Education Liaison team where she co-ordinates the Aimhigher Mentoring (HE mentoring) scheme and facilitates the Birmingham City University Student Ambassador scheme.
Jane Thomas, Outreach & Enquiry Management Admin Assistant
Providing administrative support to the Head of Outreach and Enquiry Management and the Education Liaison and Widening Participation Manager. Jane also provides support for the operations of the Marketing and Communications Department and specifically the Education Liaison and enquiry/visitor management functions
All members of the Education Liaison Team are members of the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA).
Aimhigher
Josie Hurd, Aimhigher Coordination Team (Mentoring) & Education
Liaison and Widening Participation Manager
Josie has been employed by the university since the mid1980s. Her first role was within the Business School before being seconded to the Registry as Head of Admissions. It was here that Josie became involved in education liaison work and found that she enjoyed working with potential applicants and supporting young people in particular to achieve their potential. Josie moved with her education liaison work from the Academic Registry to the then new Marketing Unit. She has been engaged in a number of local and national initiatives and organisations including four years as UK Chair of the HELOA. She is currently partly seconded to the new local Aimhigher partnership.
