Lily Pebbles Martin, a 2010 graduate from the Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations undergraduate degree at Birmingham City Business School, has been nominated for the 2011 Marie-Claire blog awards. Lily has been nominated for the award, for her blog ‘What I heart Today’ which is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog. Winners will be announced at the end of January.

The Students’ Union and the University’s Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) are named Best Practice winner in the NUS Student Engagement Awards 2011. They won the award for the Virtual Students’ Union and were praised for preparing prospective students for progression into higher education and integrating into university life- The University’s International Office becomes a winner of a prestigious Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Award for 2011 for Outstanding International Strategy.
- Ben Whitehouse, a graduate in Animation wins a prestigious Royal Television Society Student Animation Award for his stop motion film Til Death Do Us Part.
- Gary Holt, Professor of Innovation in Machinery Management (Centre for Business Innovation and Enterprise), receives a prestigious award at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2011. The accolade was awarded for Professor Holt’s paper on construction business procurement, which looked at research impact in this field over the last two decades.
- Angela Gilraine scoops the prestigious ‘Student of the Year’ award from the Chartered Institute of Housing on 9 February. Angela had worked in housing for 22 years as a caretaker and then a concierge when she embarked on a foundation degree in professional housing studies at Birmingham City University in 2007.

- We were named the nation’s most ‘in demand’ university after influential sector magazine Times Higher Education (THE) published a table of top performing universities. Read more
- Our Business School was awarded Platinum Approval for its accountancy professional development degree courses by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountacts (ACCA).
We received the Bronze EcoCampus Award for our commitment to addressing key issues of environmental sustainability. Read more- We won a prestigious Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Award for running the best campaign for recruiting students. Read more
- Our commitment to the wellbeing of our staff was recognised with a commendation by the Birmingham Best Business Awards for the Development of Work Life Balance. Read more
- Our work with Birmingham City Council’s Urban Design team to help develop individuals through training and creating job opportunities resulted in a prestigious award. Read more
- A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between a Black Country business specialising in the design of melting furnaces and Birmingham City University was awarded the highest national accolade. Read more
- One of our media experts, lecturer Paul Bradshaw, was named in a list of the 50 most powerful people in Birmingham. Read more
- A booming small firm and innovation partner of Birmingham City University has scooped a prestigious Lord Stafford award after developing a revolutionary device to help families better protect their homes from flooding. Read more
- We are one of a very small number of UK universities with Ofsted ‘Grade One: Outstanding’ scores for both primary and secondary teacher training. In addition, the Training and Development Agency (TDA) awarded our primary and secondary teacher training its highest grade – a Category ‘A’.
